The Very Hungry Caterpillar Play Date

If you couldn’t already tell, the former teacher in me is obsessed with children’s books! So far all of our play date ideas have been based off of our favorite books to read. There are so many ideas to choose from when it comes to The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle that it’s hard to pick just one activity!

We decided to do a Build A Bug Craft and let the kids create their own masterpieces. I cut out lots of circles in different colors and sizes, then used the scraps for the legs and antennas. Then I used a hole punch to make the smaller circles for the eyes and polka dots. Just beware that you may continue to find the hole punched circles around your home for a few weeks! We also found some pom poms to add. Some of the kids loved the craft so much, the ended up making a second bug!

And of course no play date is complete without tasty snacks! The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great one because there is so much food to choose from! I decided on the watermelon, oranges, strawberries and of course, cupcakes! (Not pictured are the gummy worms since those got eaten by our very hungry toddlers!)

My idea was inspired by Cutting Tiny Bites post, but here are two more of my favorite ideas to go along with this book from A Little Pinch of Perfect and Mom Inspired Life.

What is your favorite part about The Very Hungry Caterpillar? Is it the snacks or the crafts (or both!)
